Stay On-trend for Fall From Head to Toe
Fall is in full swing, but being in Sarasota, natch, we’re still living in summer to a certain degree. It’s time to transition to a more seasonal style…maybe a bold plaid shirtdress with an angular bob? Or contrast those rich brown-and-caramel tresses with a pop of hot pink? There’s nothing like fall to make a change, so here are some seasonal trends that are easy to incorporate into your personal style.
FALL FASHION MUSTS
For Fall 2018, runways were filled with everything from animal prints and plaid to bold shades of magenta and sequins.
Admittedly, these looks are not for everyone. BUT, we promise you can rock runway trends in your own way. Take animal prints. No need to go head-to-toe leopard print. A pair of zebra flats paired with a monochromatic outfit will take you from drab to fab without looking too Lion King.
Or, latch onto the bold plaids that are everywhere this fall. Work plaid into your outfits via shirts, dresses, skirts, hair accessories, scarves…a bit of lumberjack chic, saucy Scot or sophisticated schoolgirl makes an outfit fresh and extremely true to the season.
Pair your plaid with a little bling, another hot trend for fall 2018. A sparkly necklace or sequined belt was once relegated to evenings, but this year, you can rock them in daytime.
In other hot-off-the-runway news: pink is back and it’s LOUD! Runway models wore magenta and fuchsia from head to toe. Again, this trend is easy to incorporate into your style without looking like you raided Barbie’s closet. A hot pink cami worn under a fall jacket or blazer, a pair of magenta-fringed chandelier earrings, a cropped fuchsia jacket—pops of pink are positively primo.
HAIRCUTS & COLOR TO SEE YOU THROUGH THE SEASON
When was the last time you had a haircut? Can’t remember? It’s easy to get lax about scheduling those trims and re-shapes. But trust us, cuts do matter—especially at the end of summer. The sun, salt and chlorine have been brutal on your tresses, so snip off those dry, split ends, refresh your hair shape, and do justice to that favorite fall jacket by topping it off with fab hair.
Love your long locks? Face-framing layers are in this season, so keep your length and natural texture with flattering layers around your face.
The classic bob is still just as hot today as it was in 1928. Women with fine, straight hair can embrace an angular bob with minimal layers for a sleek style that’s sophisticated and easy to maintain.
If your hair is full of texture, embrace it. Texture is fashion forward and easy to maintain with Aveda’s Texture Tonic. It defines and enhances natural texture, and provides piece-y definition.
Hair color this season is warm, rich and vibrant. And good news: it’s easy to update. An Aveda Hair Color Shine Treatment at Nuovo can quickly mend damaged hair, add gloss, and enhance your current shade. Talk to your colorist about this service—it’s perfect for a subtle improvement.
For you forever blondes, think about a more autumnal feel for fall. Tone down your bright summer tresses with a shadow root or lowlights. Don’t worry, you’ll still be blonde! We promise!
And as always, fall is definitely the season to be a redhead. This year, bold shades of copper and ginger are everywhere. Add in gold or blonde highlights and your shade will sizzle.
Brunettes are also warmer this fall. Base shades of chocolate or chestnut pop with caramel highlights.
FALL MAKEUP TIPS TO STAY ON-TREND
The bolder, the better. For the lips, choose a confident shade of red that flatters your skin tone. Keep the rest of your makeup neutral and wear that red lip during the day, or glam it up after dark with a smoky eye.
Some of our favorite reds include shades from Aveda’s Feed My Lips Pure Nourish-Mint Lipstick. Cana is an intense orange-red that looks great with the browns, golds and oranges of fall. If you prefer a more pinkish red, go for Jujube. And for super dramatic, vibrant red, try Goji.
Other fall face trends include natural skin, à la wedding-day Meghan Markle (try Aveda’s Inner Light tinted moisturizer for a dewy complexion) and bold, black liner with pops of color on the eyelid.
If any of these fall trends speak to you—have at it! The key to trends is you wear them; they don’t wear you. Come on into Nuovo to talk with us about a cut or color change or to play with some Aveda makeup looks. Because as serious as we (and you) are about style, the bottom line is: don’t overthink it. Fashion should be FUN, my dears!
